Between 2006 and 2008, as the crowning achievement of an initiative launched some years prior, the castle became the property of the town of Buronzo<\/strong> , and about one third of the built-up area underwent extensive restoration. This was made possible by financial contributions from the European Union<\/strong> \u2013 with effective promotion by the Region of Piedmont<\/strong> \u2013 the Consorzio di Bonifica della Baraggia Biellese e Vercellese<\/strong>, from the Province of Vercelli, Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Vercelli<\/strong>, and the Town Council<\/strong>. The total amount of this first intervention, estimated at around \u20ac6 million, accounts for the complications of dealing with a historic complex, which was in a seriously dilapidated condition until 2006 and is now available for public use again. Buronzo castle<\/strong> is the only walled structure regularly open to the public in the Vercelli area. The pledge of almost \u20ac 250,000 for the restoration and current ordinary and extraordinary expenses has been and continues to pose a challenge to the town council, which remains determined to make the castle a regional reference point for the whole band encompassing the upper Vercelli plain and Baraggia areas, which historically constitute the basin of reference.<\/p>\n
