The town

We are not talking about just one castle, but rather seven stitched together by cobbled streets, stairs and ladders, in a succession ever-surprising sights. The piazza, now known as Piazza Caduti, used to be referred to simply as “the” Piazza, and is the epicentre of this unique system, serving as its point of departure and arrival. It almost looks like a theatre set, with different periods of history in dialogue with the medieval slit windows and eighteenth-century facades, soberly composed neoclassical frontages and colourful mosaic with different styles from different times, the result of endless restructuring and changing tastes spanning 600 years of history.
